FREE family festival fun in Stepney Green from QMUL – the Festival of Communities 2023

Festival of Communities – 10-11 June 2023 (weekend)

The Festival of Communities will be back in Stepney Green Park on Saturday 10th June and at the QMUL campus in Mile End / Stepney Green QMUL on Sunday 11th June. Academics, researchers and supporting staff from across QMUL’s departments as well as community support groups from Tower Hamlets will have stalls with free activities and information to tell (and hopefully amaze and inspire) you about our work, and perhaps even get you involved.

There’ll also be places where you can buy food and drink… and get your face painted.

CS4FN (Computer Science For Fun) will be there with our stall on the Saturday so come along and pick up some free magazines and booklets, colour in our pixel puzzles or ‘hatagons’ or take them away to do at home. In addition to our festival favourites we’ll also have a new game to play…

Program a Postcard! 10th June 2023, all day*

Based on the work of Christopher Strachey and his letter-generating program we’ll get you to create a postcard based on the same kind of algorithm. We can’t guarantee it will make a lot of sense but we can guarantee that we’ll post it for you, free (if you’re in the first 100 people to complete a postcard). We’ll also have spare postcards if you just want to take one home for yourself.

This is a festival version of our Christopher Strachey text-generating letter activity for schools.

Our stall might look a bit like this, we’re certain there will be bunting.
