“A fully funded data science career experience for A-level students”

Who is it for?

  • 16 and 17 year olds in their first year of A-levels
  • Studying at least one STEM subject
  • Interested in finding out more about the world of data science, as well as careers in defence and security
  • Identify as coming from a lower socio-economic background

Also, from the application form (I picked London as the example but assume similar for Manchester and Birmingham).

  1. Currently be in Year 12.
  2. Have 5 GCSEs at 4 or above, one of which must be Maths at 5 or above.
  3. Currently be studying at least 1 STEM A-Level.

Applicants to this Summer Experience should live, or have access to stay (e.g., in a family member’s home), in an area which allows them to travel to the central London location for five consecutive days (Monday-Friday). The Summer Experience will take place close to rail stations. The days are expected to begin at around 9.30am and finish at 4pm.

We will provide a £25 travel bursary, but please ensure it is practical for you to travel to this location for 5 consecutive days before you apply.

Please do not post on social media or the internet about your application to this programme. People who work in Defence and Security roles cannot share information about their jobs, especially online, so we’d ask that you refrain from posting about your potential involvement in this programme.

During the week, you will find out more about how the UK intelligence agencies and defence organisations use data science and artificial intelligence to keep the UK safe.
