The Computing Progression Pathways suggests that at the purple level, on the theme of Hardware & Processing, a student should demonstrate that he/she:
- Recognises and understands the function of the main internal parts of basic computer architecture. (Abstraction)
- Understands the concepts behind the fetch-execute cycle. (Abstraction) (Algorithmic Thinking)
- Knows that there is a range of operating systems and application software for the same hardware. (Abstraction)
The following link to cs4fn articles that illustrate Hardware & Processing – Purple Level
- An operating system is the software that has direct control of the hardware that applications are to run on.
