The Computing Progression Pathways suggests that at the black level, on the theme of Hardware & Processing, a student should demonstrate that he/she:
- Knows that processors have instruction sets and that these relate to low-level instructions carried out by a computer. (Abstraction) (Algorithmic Thinking) (Generalisation)

- Grace Hopper is famous for more than just the word ‘bug’ though. She was one of the most influential of the early computer pioneers, responsible for perhaps the most significant idea in helping programmers to write large, bug-free programs.
