Juliana Rotich: Crowdsourcing in a crisis

Juliana was instrumental in the development of Ushahidi. This is an online platform which is used to support election monitoring, human rights reporting and crisis response.

Data for the system is crowd-sourced and the system has been used over a quarter of a million time in over 160 countries. It was used after the Haiti Earthquake augmenting formal relief support with real-time data gathered from local people combined with geographical data and social media data.
