These simple logical thinking puzzles are suitable for primary school upwards.

What do you have to do?

Fill in the grid following the rules such as that each row and column contains each of the numbers 1-4.

Why does it matter?

Being able to reason logically and think clearly is always important. It is especially important for coders. Logical thinking is a skill. You therefore get better with practice. Do puzzles daily to build your logical thinking skills.

Hints

  • If a row or column has three numbers already filled in, then there is only one number the last one could be.
  • Find a row with two numbers already filled in. Check the columns of the empty squares. If any contain a number that is different to the two in the row, then the number in that row cannot be any of those three numbers. It must be the fourth number.
  • Find a column with two numbers already filled in. Check the rows of the empty squares. If any contain a number that is different to the two in the column, then the number in that column cannot be any of those three numbers. It must be the fourth number.
  • The extra rules, make things easier, giving more ways to work out what missing numbers are.

Rules

Each row and column must contain each of the numbers 1-4. Each of the four corner areas of 4 cells must also contain each of the numbers 1-4. In addition, the four corner cells must contain the numbers 1-4 AND the central square of four cells must contain the numbers 1-4 (and more such patterns too).
