School teachers: sign your class(es) up to chat with Computer Scientists in “I’m a Computer Scientist, Get Me Out of Here”

I’m A Scientist, Get Me Out of Here is inviting school teachers to take part in their moderated text-based livechats with computer scientists, free for UK state schools. These are really good fun for both students and scientists and definitely recommended.

Below is some text copied and pasted from their website, along with the sign-up link.

Teachers: connect your students with working computer scientists and support them to see STEM as something “for them”.

The I’m a Computer Scientist activity supports your students’ science capital, showing them how the things they’ve learned about computing, programming, and technology relate to real-world careers. By discussing their questions and ideas with the experts, students see the relevance of their studies and gain insight into the value of computer science in their everyday lives.

The text-based format gives every student an equal voice, from the most confident to the most shy. I’m a Computer Scientist provides a platform for students to self-guide their learning, exploring a diverse range of computing subjects and roles, by connecting with the real people working within them. They see that computer science is relevant to them, regardless of career destination, and is done by people just like them.

Your students can learn about up to 30 computer scientists through profiles and CVs, representing a range of backgrounds. Students see computer science applied to a variety of careers, and see computing sector roles as something ‘for them’.
